Fert-Explorer is a Business Unit at UM6P dedicated to the development of new formulations of fertilizers. We are expanding our technical team to drive innovation in fertilizer formulations and advance our sustainable agricultural solutions. We seek a highly skilled and motivated Research Engineer in Fertilizer Chemistry and Formulation to support this growth, focusing on developing innovative and efficient fertilizer products to meet the demands of modern agriculture.

Key duties

Research and Development: Lead and conduct research on the formulation of fertilizers, focusing on optimizing nutrient delivery, stability, and environmental impact.

Product Development: Design and develop new fertilizer products, including controlled-release and specialty fertilizers, based on market needs and regulatory requirements.

Optimization: Analyze the effectiveness of existing fertilizer products and work on improvements to enhance their performance and sustainability.

Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with agronomists, product managers, and other technical team members to ensure successful product development and field trials.

Data Analysis: Utilize chemical and physical analysis techniques to characterize raw materials, intermediates, and final fertilizer products.

Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all formulations comply with local and international regulatory standards and environmental guidelines.

Technical Support: Provide technical expertise and support to other departments, including production, quality control, and sales teams, to address formulation and product performance challenges.

Documentation: Prepare detailed technical reports, patent applications, and presentations summarizing research findings and product performance.

Innovation: Keep up-to-date with the latest trends and developments in fertilizer technology and sustainable agriculture practices.

Qualifications & skills

PhD in chemistry, preferably with a focus on Analytical chemistry or fertilizer chemistry

Chemistry skills
• Strong background in analytical chemistry.
• Demonstrated expertise in formulation chemistry is required.
• Proven ability to analyze the chemical composition of raw materials and finished products.
• Solid understanding of the physical principles underlying chemical reactions and molecular interactions.
• Previous experience with separation and purification techniques, particularly crystallization, is highly desirable.

Research and development skills
• Skills in planning, conducting and analyzing experimental research.
• Ability to write patents, scientific articles and technical reports.
• Skills in managing Research projects, including planning, execution, and monitoring of results.

Cross-functional skills
• Ability to collaborate effectively with other researchers, technicians, and industrial partners.
• Communication skills to convey research results to both technical and general audiences.
• Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking both English and French.
• Ability to quickly adapt to new technologies and research methods.
