- Mining soils
- Mine rehabilitation
Job Description
The Geology and Sustainable Mining Institute (GSMI) of the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) invites applications for a 12-month Affiliate Professor position in the field of biogeochemistry and geomicrobiology, with a specific focus on the role of microorganisms in the rehabilitation of degraded environments, particularly mining sites.
The research will explore microbe–mineral–organic matter interactions and their implications for carbon sequestration and soil quality improvement. The professor is expected to investigate how microbial processes contribute to the stabilization of organic matter, the formation of soil aggregates, and the restoration of key soil functions, supporting long-term ecosystem recovery. The position encourages interdisciplinary research by bridging microbiology, soil science, and mine restoration. Projects will address microbial-driven nutrient cycling, bioavailability of elements, and the enhancement of soil carbon storage as part of nature-based solutions for land rehabilitation.
