The Geology and Sustainable Mining Institute (GSMI) of Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) invites applications for a full-time position as Assistant Professor in the field of exploration geology focusing on igneous petrology and geochemistry, with an expected start date of September 2025.

This position is tailored for candidates with proven expertise in exploration geology, focusing on perspectivity mapping, igneous petrology and geochemistry applied to the mineral systems of the Moroccan Saharan domain. The successful candidate will be expected to possess deep knowledge of the geology of the Morocco southern provinces and experience with their ore deposits and potential sites for critical commodities. Familiarity with melt/fluid inclusion studies is also an advantage.

The appointed professor will primarily focus on:

  • Leading and conducting interdisciplinary research projects to advance the geological understanding of Morocco's Saharan domain, its geodynamic evolution, and its mineral resource potential.
  • Developing advanced fieldwork techniques, prospectivity mapping, and mineral exploration strategies to address challenges in the Saharan terrains and to identify potential prospects for economically significant commodities.
  • Collaborating closely with industry and academic partners to develop methods for ore characterization and extraction that are economically viable.

The candidate must demonstrate a proven ability to conduct research projects and establish research programs with both internal and external funding. Developing partnerships with industry and government agencies is highly desirable. Experience working within a team of geoscientists and engineers to advance geological exploration studies and achieve the objectives of sponsored research programs is essential.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in exploration geology, igneous petrology, and geochemistry or related specialization. Candidates must also provide evidence of excellence in research, as demonstrated by a record of sustained high-impact publications in top-ranked journals relevant to the field, presentations at significant conferences, and other activities that contribute to the visibility and prominence of the discipline.
