Africa50 has raised over US$1 billion so far from 33 African countries, the African Development Bank, two African Central Banks and Africa’s largest pension fund. Africa50 has an independent investment process and seeks to generate commercial risk adjusted returns for its investments across key infrastructure sectors: Energy (including power generation and related parts of the value chain), Midstream gas, Transportation, ICT, Health infrastructure, Education and Fintech. Africa50's Fundraising & Investor Relations function supports the institution's multi-vehicle platform by mobilizing public and private sector capital, engaging shareholders, managing investor relationships, coordinating fundraising execution, supporting due diligence processes and delivering consistent investor communications. Purpose of the Role The Senior Associate is an investor-facing member of the Fundraising & Investor Relations team with accountability for progressing assigned fundraising and relationship-management workstreams under the overall leadership of a Director. The role goes beyond execution support: the Senior Associate is expected to lead day-to-day engagement, maintain momentum with counterparties, exercise sound commercial judgment and drive conversations toward concrete outcomes. Candidates must be equally comfortable engaging government and sovereign stakeholders and commercial or institutional investors, adapting their approach while maintaining Africa50's overall relationship strategy and senior-level oversight. Principal Responsibilities Investor and Shareholder Engagement
• Lead day-to-day engagement with assigned investors, shareholders and strategic partners under the direction of a Director, ensuring conversations progress and agreed actions are delivered.
• Develop a strong understanding of counterparties' priorities, constraints and decision-making processes and use this insight to shape engagement plans and recommend next steps.
• Prepare for and actively participate in senior-level meetings, lead follow-up discussions where appropriate and escalate strategic or sensitive matters to the Director.
• Operate effectively across government and sovereign stakeholders as well as DFIs, pension funds, institutional investors and other commercial capital providers. Fundraising and Relationship Accountability
• Take ownership of defined fundraising and investor-relations workstreams from engagement planning through due diligence, negotiation support and conversion, within the strategy agreed with the Director.
• Identify and qualify opportunities, recommend prioritization and engagement approaches, and actively push internal and external stakeholders toward decisions and next steps.
• Oversee investor requests, DDQs and due diligence processes, mobilizing the relevant internal teams and ensuring timely, high-quality responses. Strategic Preparation and Internal Leadership
• Own the quality and strategic relevance of briefing notes, investor materials, Q&A and follow-up communications for assigned relationships, leveraging analyst support where appropriate.
• Translate investor feedback and market intelligence into practical recommendations for Directors and senior leadership.
• Direct and review work produced by Analysts and Interns on assigned workstreams, providing clear guidance and quality control.
• Work across investment teams, Finance, Legal, ESG/Impact, Risk and Communications to resolve issues and maintain momentum on engagements. Candidate Profile
• Advanced degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Investment Management, International Development or a related field; MBA is an advantage.
• Typically 6-8 years of relevant experience in fundraising, investor relations, private equity, infrastructure investment, development finance, asset management, investment banking, consulting or related fields.
• Demonstrated ability to manage and progress senior stakeholder relationships and fundraising processes with appropriate senior oversight.
• Credibility and adaptability across both public-sector/government environments and commercial or institutional investor settings.
• Strong commercial judgment, influencing skills and ownership mindset, with the confidence to push conversations forward while knowing when to escalate.
• Excellent written communication, synthesis and presentation skills and the ability to translate complex investment information into persuasive investor messages.
• Strong interpersonal judgment, diplomacy and discretion, particularly when dealing with senior officials, institutional investors and confidential matters.
