Role Overview
The Field Technician conducts field trial operations and data collection for CROPRADAR in accordance with established protocols. The focus is systematic, high-quality, hands-on execution: setting up and monitoring plots, recording measurements and observations, capturing images, and keeping field records complete and consistent across sites. This is a practical, field-based role for someone methodical, dependable, and comfortable working outdoors and on the move.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
• Set up and monitor field trials for cereal crops (wheat, barley), including experimental plots and on-farm pilots, in accordance with established protocols.
• Carry out systematic field data collection, including:
• Crop observations and phenological staging
• Fertilizer practices and management records
• Yield measurements and post-harvest data
• Ground-level images of crop health, disease symptoms, and growth stages
• Operate cameras and basic field instruments for standardized, systematic image and measurement capture.
• Follow standardized procedures to ensure data quality, consistency, and completeness across all sites.
• Support ground-truth labeling of images and field observations under the guidance of agronomists and researchers.
• Assist farmer participation through field visits and app-assisted data collection workflows.
• Provide operational support for demonstrations and validation activities, coordinating on the ground with Al Moutmir field teams.
• Compile field data and contribute to routine field logs, progress updates, and technical reports. Expected Deliverables
• Complete, well-organized field datasets collected to protocol and ready for analysis.
• Field measurement and sampling records for yield, fertilizer use, and disease occurrence.
• Routine field activity logs and progress reports.
• Reliable operational support for validation and demonstration activities. Required Skills and Profile
•
Education:
Technical diploma or Bac+2 to Bac+3 in agriculture, agronomy, crop or soil science, or a related technical field. An advanced research degree is not required.
• Field knowledge: practical understanding of cereal cropping systems, fertilizer practices, and field operations.
• Hands-on
experience:
field data collection, sampling, and measurement, ideally within trials or applied projects.
• Image and instrument handling: comfortable operating cameras and basic field instruments for systematic capture.
• Reliability: methodical, careful, and consistent, with strong attention to data quality and documentation.
• Field readiness: physically able to work outdoors and travel regularly to sites across regions.
• People
skills:
able to work effectively with farmers and field teams. Working proficiency in French and Arabic, including local dialect for farmer interaction.
