Duties and Responsibilities

The duration of the internship is for six (6) months. The internship is UNPAID and may be either full-time or part-time. It should be noted that full-time internship working hours are 35 hours per week, while part-time internship working hours are 20 hours per week. The internship will be undertaken either remotely outside the duty station or in a hybrid working arrangement at the Rabat Programme Office and UN Premise, New York, United States. This internship is located in the in the Special Projects and Innovation Branch (SPIB) of the United Nations Office of Counter- Terrorism (UNOCT), at the United Nations Headquarters in New York and will be offered on a hybrid basis. UNOCT was established to: (a) provide leadership on the General Assembly counter- terrorism mandates entrusted to the Secretary-General from across the United Nations system; (b) enhance coordination and coherence across the 38 (currently 43) Global Counter- Terrorism Coordination Compact (former CTITF Task Force) entities to ensure the balanced implementation of the four pillars of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy; (c) strengthen the delivery of United Nations counter-terrorism capacity-building assistance to Member States; (d) improve visibility, advocacy and resource mobilization for United Nations counter-terrorism efforts; and (e) ensure that due priority is given to counterterrorism across the United Nations system and that the important work on preventing violent extremism is firmly rooted in the Strategy. The intern will report to the Head of the Law Enforcement Unit in the Special Projects Section (SPS) of the Special Projects and Innovation Branch (SPIB) This internship is for an initial period of minimum three months and may be extended up to six months depending on the needs of the Branch. Once selected, the intern must begin your internship either prior to or within one year of graduation. United Nations interns are not paid. All costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation, and living expenses must be borne by either the interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns must show a proof of a valid major global insurance coverage during the internship and are responsible for its costs. Interns must be discreet and keep confidential all unpublished information obtained during the course of the internship and may not publish any documents based on such information. The intern may get academic credit from their institution of higher education for the internship. Interns should check with their university to confirm their academic credit policy for internships. Responsibilities The intern is expected to perform various activities, and will work in areas of programme management and policy matters related to preventing and countering violent extremism conducive to terrorism, including:
• Using relevant computer software, creates designs in appropriate format for promotional and other material, e.g. PowerPoint presentations, presentational materials, announcements, etc.; ensures that photos, graphics, etc. are appropriate and conform to UN standards.
• Attend meetings as assigned and produce reports thereof;
• Support the organization of desk-to-desk meetings with regional actors, civil society actors, Member States, regional organizations and other entities.
• Conduct research, assist in data collection and conduct research and provide analysis on relevant topics.
• Assist in situation monitoring, actively scanning and assessing elements of a situation to gain information or maintain an accurate understanding of it.
• Provide assistance during conferences.
• Assist in maintaining databases.
• Support the review of key reports and publications.
• Fulfill other duties as required.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent) Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master's or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have recently completed a Bachelor's, Master's or PH.D. Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional UN language is an asset. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations.
