This position is located in the Programme Office for Counter-Terrorism and Training in Africa, in the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT), in Rabat. The Programme Officer will report to the head of the Programme Office, with the supervision of the Chief of Special Projects Section within the Special Projects and Innovations Branch (SPIB), under the overall supervision of the Chief of the Special Projects and Innovations Branch, UNOCT. The United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) was established by the General Assembly in June 2017. The Office has five main functions: (a) provide leadership on the General Assembly counter-terrorism mandates across the United Nations System; (b) enhance coordination and coherence across the 47 Global Counter-Terrorism Coordination Compact entities to ensure the balanced implementation of the four pillars of the Strategy; (c) strengthen the delivery of United Nations counter-terrorism capacity-building assistance to Member States; (d) improve visibility, advocacy and resource mobilization for United Nations counter-terrorism efforts; and (e) ensure that due priority is given to counter-terrorism across the United Nations System and that the important work on preventing violent extremism is firmly rooted in the Strategy. The UN Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) Programme Office for Counter-Terrorism Training in Africa aims to develop and implement key initiatives to support Member States, particularly in North Africa and sub-Saharan Africa, to prevent and counter terrorism and violent extremism conducive to terrorism. Furthermore, the Programme Office for Counter-Terrorism Training in Africa aims to increase the impact of its programmes and projects through its field presence, offer innovative solutions to more effectively prevent violent extremism and counter-terrorism, implement capacity building assistance in the regions and countries most affected by terrorism, and develop new partnerships. The overarching goal of the office is to strengthen the capacity of member states through the development of National Training Programmes and Counter Terrorism training curricula.
