Job Description:

  1. Introduction UM6P:

Mohammed VI Polytechnic University is an institution dedicated to research and innovation in Africa and aims to position itself among world-renowned universities in its fields.   1. Context:

Almost $28B has been invested in Circular Carbon space cumulatively to date, with $6.6B in 2024[1]. Carbon capture, utilization, and sequestration (CCUS) is increasingly recognized as a key component in minimizing industrial decarbonization costs and streamlining the transition to clean energy, as well as a key enabler of Circular and Negative Carbon markets. It emerges as a significant knowledge-based carbon management industry, incentivized by the need to achieve negative GHG emissions to meet the 1.5 °C global warming targets. Morocco, along with other African nations, is strategically positioned to become a leader in the Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) industry. This potential is supported by the continent's vast renewable energy resources and supportive policies for promoting green hydrogen and carbon negative sectors to generate tradable carbon credits at an affordable cost.

  1. Research objectives:

This project deals with the development of electrochemical pathways for CO2 capture and mineralization/conversion into high-value chemicals. The study will involve experimental and modeling studies, including electrochemical cell development and modeling of fundamental mechanisms and phenomena involved. The successful candidate should have documented experience with electrochemical conversion processes and good modeling and coding skills.

Admission Criteria:

Applicants with an engineering or master's degree in Process/chemical/electrical engineering or applied chemistry/mathematics/energetics are encouraged to apply. Applicants with direct experience in modelling and simulation of thermal, electrochemical, or chemical systems will be prioritized.
