The Geology and Sustainable Mining Institute (GSMI) is a leading research institute within the University Mohammed VI Polytechnic (UM6P). Thesis Subject Description:
- Context
The integration of microporous materials in agriculture presents a promising approach to enhancing soil quality, water efficiency, and overall crop performance. These materials possess high surface areas, controlled pore structures, and excellent ion-exchange and water-retention properties. In the context of sustainable agriculture, they can be employed as soil amendments to improve moisture retention, reduce nutrient leaching, and enhance the bioavailability of essential elements. Additionally, microporous materials can serve as delivery platforms for the controlled release of fertilizers, pesticides, or bio-stimulants, reducing input waste and environmental contamination. Their ability to immobilize heavy metals and pollutants also supports soil remediation efforts, contributing to safer agricultural systems. The proposed project will explore the development and application of microporous materials as part of an integrated strategy to promote soil health and optimize resource use.
- Research Objectives
- Design and Synthesis of Microporous Materials
- Assess the impact of integrating Microporous Materials on Water delivery efficiency and Soil properties
- Conduct a preliminary Life Cycle Assessment (LCA to evaluate the environmental properties of the technology for large-scale agricultural deployment.
- Admission Criteria
- Master's degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, or a related field
- Basic knowledge of characterization techniques
- An experience in the field of phosphate-based materials is considered a plus
