Located in the municipality of Benguerir, in the very heart of the Green City, Mohammed VI Polytechnic University aspires to leave its mark nationally, continentally, and globally.
We are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to join a multidisciplinary research project focused on the valorization of native aromatic plants and their microbiomes in arid and semi-arid ecosystems. The aim is to explore plant-microbiome interactions, develop sustainable solutions for environmental restoration and agriculture, and identify potential economic benefits from these plants.
Key Responsibilities:
- Research and Literature Review:
Conduct an in-depth review of native plants and their microbiomes, focusing on their roles in stress tolerance, ecosystem restoration, and commercial applications. - Fieldwork and Sample Collection:
Participate in field surveys to collect plant and soil samples from arid and semi-arid ecosystems. Record environmental data and document plant species of interest. - Laboratory Analysis:
Assist in microbial isolation, characterization (e.g., microscopy, biochemical assays), and DNA/RNA-based studies (e.g., metagenomics, sequencing) to study microbial diversity and function. - Data Analysis:
Analyze microbial community data and correlate it with environmental factors and plant traits using bioinformatics and statistical tools. - Development of Action Plan:
Contribute to the design of an action plan for sustainable utilization of native plants and their microbiomes, including ecological, agricultural, and economic aspects. - Reporting and Presentation:
Prepare progress reports, visual presentations, and a final project report summarizing findings and recommendations. - Candidate Profile:
- Master's degree in Chemistry, Phytochemistry, Biotechnology, Agronomy, or a related field.

Strong interest in natural products, plant sciences, and sustainable development.

Experience in laboratory techniques such as chromatography, spectroscopy, or bioassays is an asset.

Good scientific writing and communication skills in English.

Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Fieldwork experience in rural or semi-arid environments is a plus.
