Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Ph.D. candidate to join our interdisciplinary research team working on the development of nanomaterials for use as nano-fertilizers, with a focus on their design, formulation, and practical application in sustainable agriculture. This position is part of a flagship project aimed at enhancing crop productivity, nutrient efficiency, and soil health in arid environments through advanced nanotechnology-based solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Material Design and Synthesis:
    • Synthesize, functionalize, and characterize nanomaterials for use as nano-fertilizers and nutrient carriers.
    • Optimize nanomaterial properties for controlled nutrient release and targeted delivery to plants.
  • Agricultural Application:
    • Evaluate the agronomic performance of nanofertilizers in controlled and field environments, focusing on arid and saline conditions.
    • Assess the impact of nanofertilizers on plant growth, crop yield, and nutrient uptake efficiency.
    • Develop guidelines for the safe and effective use of nanomaterials-based fertilizers in agricultural systems.
  • Environmental and Safety Assessments:
    • Assess the environmental impact and ecotoxicological effects of nanomaterials to ensure safe and sustainable agricultural practices.
    • Monitor the fate and transport of nanofertilizers in soil-plant systems.
  • Research and Collaboration:
    • Work closely with team members, co-supervisors, and industry partners to ensure successful project execution.
    • Present research findings at conferences, workshops, and stakeholder meetings.
    • Prepare and publish high-quality scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Agronomy, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Strong background in nanomaterials synthesis, characterization, and functionalization.
  • Experience in soil chemistry, plant nutrition, or agricultural science is preferred.
  • Knowledge of analytical techniques such as SEM, TEM, XRD, ICP-OES, and spectrophotometry is advantageous.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
