We are seeking a highly motivated Ph.D. candidate to join our research team in exploring the role of microbial ecology in promoting sustainable agricultural practices. This interdisciplinary project will investigate the composition, function, and ecological interactions of soil microbial communities and their contributions to soil health, nutrient cycling, and crop productivity.
Project Overview:
The project aims to understand how diverse microbial communities influence agroecosystem resilience and sustainability. It will involve field sampling, laboratory-based microbial analysis (including metagenomics and functional assays), and the evaluation of microbial-based strategies to reduce dependency on chemical inputs.
Key Objectives:

Characterize soil microbial diversity across different farming systems.

Examine functional traits of beneficial microbes linked to plant health and soil fertility.

Evaluate the impact of organic amendments, crop rotations, and reduced chemical inputs on microbial community dynamics.

Develop microbial indicators of sustainable soil management.
Ideal Candidate:
We welcome applicants with a background in microbiology, soil science, environmental science, agronomy, or a related field. Experience with molecular biology techniques, bioinformatics, or ecological fieldwork will be considered an asset. A strong interest in sustainable agriculture and systems thinking is essential.
